St Kevin of Glendalough - Teacher Notes
Suggested Activities
Holding the blackbird nest - Have the students imagine what it might be like to hold a blackbird's nest in your hand for a long time (40 days, according to the legend). Students outstretch one arm and hold their pretend "nest" in their hand. Use a timer to see how it feels after different periods of time (2 minutes would be enough to get the idea). Have children reflect on the virtues required to undertake a task for 40 days and nights (e.g. determination, patience, hopefulness, kindness, gentleness) (idea adapted from http://www.myroadscholars.com/saint-kevin-of-glendalough.html)
Blackbird Crafts - Make a blackbird-inspired craft based on the ideas from one of numerous websites.
